I always felt that I was a sensitive guy; you know pretty intuitive and aware. Yet I had no inkling of what was about to take place as I waited for the elevator that afternoon. The doors swished open and the only person in sight was my own reflection in the mirrored rear wall. I stepped into the empty car and pressed the Ground Floor button.
A couple of floors later the car halted its descent and the doors opened to reveal a raven-haired beauty, about 5 5" dressed in a short black skirt, black jacket with a white blouse underneath and showing enough cleavage to be interesting. Her shapely legs were on fine display in black stockings and red high heels. In one hand she carried a briefcase. I took all this in in about 3 seconds, as one does in such situations in elevators. As I went through this process I noticed her blue eyes doing a similar assessment of myself.
I gave a brief smile as she stepped in beside me.
"Going down?" I asked, mentally kicking myself as then words came out of my mouth.
"Uh huh." she replied, glancing at me. God; the view between her buttons where her blouse gaped.
The doors closed and the car began its smooth journey down.
Without warning there was a jerk and the elevator stopped. At the same time the lights went out and we were in complete darkness!
"What the.....???", I intoned as the lady drew her breath in sharply. A moment later the emergency lighting kicked in and out pale faces looked at each other in a kind of frozen tableau.
"Ill check the phone", I said moving to the panel. I pulled it open and lifted the receiver. It seemed dead and I was about to replace it when a voice came on the line.
"How many of you are in there?"
"Just two." I replied.
