With my umbrella shielding me from the rain, I cut through the courtyard and around the library. That’s when I saw Catherine, one of my favorite ninth grade students, sitting on a bench reading under the covered walkway.
Catherine was a very mature fifteen-year-old girl, and I had developed a kind of secret crush on her, nothing I wanted to pursue, just a sort of innocent crush. She was tall, standing about five-six with shoulder-length brown hair and a nice, athletic body. She always wore conservative clothing and I couldn’t help wondering what she looked like under her sweaters sometimes. What I really liked about her the most was how intelligent and interesting she was for her young age. She was the kind of girl who I often wished were just a few years older.
I walked towards her wondering why she was still at school and in such poor weather. “What are you still doing here Catherine? It’s Friday, go home.” Catherine looked up with a very cute smile and said, “I’m waiting out the rain. I got walk home today because my parents are out of town.” I looked at her hoping she was joking. There had been at least a constant drizzle for two days, and it didn’t seem to be letting up at all. “Come on, I’ll give you ride. You’re going to catch pneumonia out here, and I don’t want you missing my class,” I said with chuckle.
