Wind and rain pounded the window as Brian’s alarm clock ripped him from his deep, blissful sleep. It was one of those days that made you want to roll over and go right back to sleep. He could hear Tina making breakfast in the kitchen. The smell of the fresh coffee was the only thing that could have gotten him out of bed.
Brian and Tina had been married for about fifteen years now. As far as marriages go, theirs wasn’t too bad. They both had good jobs and money wasn’t really a problem. This weekend they had planned to put a bit of romance back in their lives with a weekend getaway to the mountains. They had taken the next Monday off and were looking forward to a long weekend. The gear was all packed and waiting by the garage door so all they needed to do now was load it into the car and head out.
Brian shuffled down the stairs and into the kitchen.
“G’morning, honey. That coffee smells especially good right now.”
Tina poured him a cup of the coffee and placed it on the table next to a plate of pancakes.
“Thanks, Tina!”
She was much prettier than the average thirty five year old housewife. She had taken good care of herself and it showed. All the trips to the gym had kept her well toned and full of energy. Brian, on the other hand, was just a couple of pounds overweight and out of shape. He didn’t have time for the gym and his job pretty much kept him tied to his desk all day. He was really in need of a vacation even if it was only a couple of days.
“As soon as I polish off these pancakes and get dressed, I’ll get the car loaded up and we can get on the road.”
“I just checked the Weather Channel and it looks like the clouds should be clearing just in time for us to leave,” Tina replied.
He had just put the last suitcase in the trunk when Tina walked into the garage carrying a small black duffle bag.
“Got room for one more? I want to keep this in the car with us if we can.”
Brian took the bag and loaded it into the back seat.
